Recipe FAQs

What pizza sauce should I use?

I made this recipe extra easy by using a jar of tomato pasta sauce, but you can also make your own homemade pizza sauce easily. Here’s my favorite pizza sauce recipe from The America’s Test Kitchen Family Baking Book: 1 tablespoon olive oil, 2 cloves garlic, 1 (28-ounce) can crushed tomatoes (extra points if you home can them, which I do every summer!). In a small sauce pan, cook the oil and garlic together over medium heat until the garlic starts to smell good. Add the tomatoes and simmer until the sauce thickens a bit, about 15 minutes. Season with salt and pepper to taste.

Does flatbread freeze well?

The flatbread freezes great! So pop them in the freezer if you aren’t going to use them all, and plan on these simple pizzas when you need a meal in a pinch. I like to get the bulk pack of flatbreads and keep them in the freezer for super busy days!

What’s the difference between flatbread pizza and regular pizza?

Flatbread pizza is a simple solution to your pizza craving that doesn’t require making any pizza dough. This really streamlines the process. It’s not only easier, but flatbread pizzas bake faster since you don’t have to let a dough crust cook. They’re delicious and a great recipe for kids to help make.

Expert Tips

  • Assembly Line:Set up the ingredients like a buffet and get the kids involved. A muffin tin works great to organize the toppings.
  • Prep Time:Don’t let the sauce sit on the crust for too long.It makes the crust overly soggy, and it’s hard to fix once it happens. It’s ideal to get things sauced and topped within about 10 minutes.
  • Fave Bread:Find a flatbread that you love.If it’s good on its own, it’ll make great pizza. If it’s only OK on its own, it’ll be a mediocre flatbread pizza crust as well.
  • On the Pan:For this recipe, bake the pizza directly on the pan and skip the parchment or baking mat. Thishelps the bottom of the flatbread get a little crisp, and it’s a really great texture.
