Smoothies have always been a big hit in our house, but we don’t always have time to get all the ingredients out and prep them on busy mornings. These freezer smoothie bags provide the perfect solution! All you have to do is throw your smoothie ingredients into a bag and let them sit in the freezer until frozen. Dump the frozen mixture into a blender and you’ve got a delicious smoothie in a matter of minutes!

My kids love how easy it is to customize these smoothies. We are able to set out all of our smoothie ingredients at once and let the kids make their own smoothie bags for the week. You can load these smoothies up with as many ingredients as you want! Whether you are going for a nutrient dense smoothie with kale and hemp hearts or something sweeter like banana and chocolate these smoothies will be a big hit!

Recipe FAQs

Should I use fresh or frozen fruit?

It is really up to you! All of the ingredients are going to be frozen before being blended anyway, so it does not make much of a difference either way. We like to switch up the flavor of our smoothies with seasonal fruit, but frozen fruit makes a great low-cost alternative.

How can I sweeten my smoothie?

The fruit you add will act as a natural sweetener; however, depending on the fruit you use you might need to give the smoothie some extra help. When using a more mild tasting fruit, I like to add a little bit of honey or maple syrup to my smoothie.

How long should I let my freezer bags sit in the freezer?

After throwing the ingredients into a bag, you should let your smoothie bag sit in the freezer for at least 6 hours. This gives the ingredients plenty of time to freeze so that you have a cold, creamy smoothie after everything is blended.

How to Store Freezer Smoothie Bags

You can lay the bags flat to freeze so they end up freezing more uniformly, taking up less space in your freezer. Freezer smoothie bags can store for 8-12 months in the freezer. So you can enjoy your favorite seasonal fruit in smoothie form all year long!
